Hypnotherapy FAQ's

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation and concentration where your mind is in a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion.

How does hypnotherapy help?
Our minds have a conscious part and a subconscious part. Our conscious mind does the analising and reasoning and helps us with the here and now. Our subconscious mind can be likened to a hard drive on a computer, everything that you have ever heard and seen will be stored in your subconscious mind. Once we have learned to do something its our subconscious mind which empowers us to carry out a task correctly. This is where all habits are stored. This is where deep rooted emotions lie and this is where the hypnotherapist needs to access in order to help his client. Whilst in a state of hypnosis, the hypnotherapist is able to access the subconscious mind without interference from the conscious mind and in turn help his client to realise their goal.

Is Hypnosis safe and are there any side effects?
Hypnosis is bought about by natural relaxation methods therefore procuring no side effects and is completely safe. Being in a hypnotic state has been likened to the stage just before we fall asleep.

How will I know if I am in hypnosis?
There is no real feeling to being in hypnosis. You will, however, feel extremely relaxed and maybe a heaviness of arms and legs. The hypnotic state is very similar to that stage just before you fall asleep at night. Some people enter a light state of deep trance and others a deep state of light trance but whatever level of hypnosis you enter I always make sure that you are in a working state of hypnosis.

Can I be made to do anything against my will or nature?
NO. You would simply bring yourself out of hypnosis if anything was said or suggested which went beyond your own beliefs or morals.

I've seen stage shows. Will I open my eyes and find myself clucking like a chicken?
Stage shows are merely there to entertain people and bare no resemblance on clinical hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a tool in which your therapist uses to help his client bring about change and in no way is used to embarrass or ridicule.

Can I remain stuck in hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation. Just as you enter hypnosis freely then equally you will come out of it freely.

Will I remember what happened during the session?
Yes. During the sessions you will always be aware what is happening around you, you are not asleep. You are aware of sounds in and out of the room, aware of the sound of my voice so you will remember all what was said.

Can anyone be hypnotised?Yes. Anyone who freely attends the clinic can be hypnotised and experience the remarkable results. People cannot be hypnotised against their will.

How many sessions will I need?Everyones problems and symptoms vary so its impossible to say how long your treatment will last. As I work ethically, I only keep you in therapy for as long as it is needed to help you make the life change you desire.

Can I be made to say anything I don't want to divulge?
No. As previously stated you are aware of all that is happening, just in a deep state of relaxation so in this case you cannot be made to say anything that you do not wish to.
