Drinking alcohol has become very much part of our culture—sharing a bottle of wine over a meal, going out for drinks with friends, celebrating special occasions with champagne. Because drinking alcohol has become part of everyday life it is often hard to notice when we have stepped over the line of enjoying a social drink to becoming problem drinking. Very often, the damage has been done before we realise it. Alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse can affect many aspects of our life, including relationships, work, and how we take care of ourselves and if not treated correctly, can result in many aspects of our life changing, too often those changes are for the worst.

How can I be helped with my alcohol dependence?

You will be helped with your alcohol dependence with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT) is the preferred method of treatment recommended by the NHS to facilitate change. The aims of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are to help you change the way that you think, feel and behave so to make the hold alcohol has over you a thing of the past.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for drinking problems, unlike other talking therapies, is solution focused and does not dwell on the past. The main stay of CBT is to focus on your thoughts and beliefs (Dysfunctional thoughts and Beliefs) about current events or situations or those which may happen in the future. These negative thoughts and beliefs produce the anxious symptoms you currently experience.

An example of dysfunctional thoughts, beliefs and emotions
linked to your drinking problem

Activating Event
An argument at home.

Dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs
I can’t do anything right. Why cant I just get some peace and quiet, I'm always getting nagged at. A few drinks will help me forget this. At least when I'm drunk i can just fall asleep and make it go away. (This client is talking himself into the reasons why he should go out and get drunk, although the thinking is maybe not very functional).

Dysfunctional emotion or consequence
Anger and resentment towards the subject of his annoyance, using alcohol to avoid the situation, (Avoidance), not knowing how to cope or understand how to cope. The results which often occur with a person who is alcohol dependent is his denial as to the scale of the problem.

As you can see from the above example, (Which is purely for illustration purposes and by no means indicate that this would be the only scenario to drinking problems), it’s not the event that is causing the person to drink too much because he could just as well obstinate from drinking and deal with the situation, it’s the thoughts and beliefs attached to the event which encourages him to drink too much. Whatever level your alcohol dependence is at you can be pretty sure that it is your thoughts and beliefs which feed the habit or addiction.

I will help you to challenge your negative beliefs to determine the possibility against what you consider to be a probable outcome of whatever your dysfunctional thinking is. Once you are able to look at your alcohol dependence without denial of the problem then the scale of your drinking problem will recede.

How else can I be helped with my alcohol dependence?

Hypnotherapy for alcohol depenence
is one of the most validated therapies available today. Recognised by the British Medical Association,(BMA), Hypnotherapy is recognized as an orthodox treatment and not merely a complimentary practice.

How Can Hypnotherapy help me with my drinking problems?

As mentioned above, the way you feel, is generally a result of your negative thoughts or beliefs about a current situation or an impending situation. Sometimes, however, the reasons why you drink too much may not be known to you at a conscious level. Drinking alcohol excessively may be as a result to negative stimuli which you are not aware of. Drinking alcohol may be because of misinterpreted protection for yourself…emotional protection.

With all conditions I treat in my practice I am always looking how to release the emotional attachment a client is experiencing towards, as in this case, alcohol dependence. Once the client understands what the emotional attachment is, he is then well on his way to recovery. This is the same as with all habits and addictions. As a general rule of thumb a person who has an addiction to alcohol did not intentionally set out to become like this, it generally is a circumstance of events which lead up to it. We will uncover that chain of events and help you to gain closure on them which will give you the motivation to succeed with the agreed goals. Using hypnotherapy in this way helps to shave off many weeks of traditional talking therapy because it establishes the root of where your addiction originated much quicker.Hypnotherapy faq’s

Whether your alcohol dependence is due to Anxiety, Depression, Panic, Stress, Anger issues, Low Confidence or Low Self Esteem, I will work with you methodically to find the way forward to release the emotional attachment you have to alcohol.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy, alone, are very powerful methods of therapy to facilitate change but when applied together they can produce rapid life changing results. The Hypnotherapy helps to unearth the subconscious reasoning for your continuing dependency to alcohol and the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is very pro-active in challenging your negative thoughts and beliefs and this helps to set achievable goals for you to work towards
