As you have learned your current behaviour, whether it's anxiety, stress, depression, panic attacks, emotional eating and smoking, you can equally unlearn it. I make this statement because most conditions are conditioned responses, comonly known as habits. You don’t make have yourself have panic attacks or have anxiety or depression. You don’t deliberately get stressed, have anger issues or overeat. You smoke even though you know its not good for you. All these conditions occur because your subconscious mind believes them to be the only way to be or to respond to situations. You can’t change these issues at a conscious level, even though you may want to, because with repitition these habits have become embedded in your subconscious. Therapy within hypnosis will help you, with repitition, to undo the habits you have created.
What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
The state of Hypnosis doesn't really have any particular feeling and the way it is experienced varies from client to client. There is no 'special' sensation or feeling that can be identified with it but there are general feelings that are reported by the majority of people that have experienced it.
After a session some people report that during the trance they felt very relaxed and felt a mild tingling sensation on the tips of their fingers. Others say that they felt weighed down in the chair...This is generally a feeling of very deep relaxation. Others say they felt like a balloon, floating & weightless. Some, not many, say that they felt nothing at all. They just had their eyes closed. Very often clients will experience time distortion when they answer they were in trance for 20 minutes when in fact it may have been nearly an hour.
Some people may say that they weren’t in the hypnotic state. They may say this because they didn’t experience what they had conjured up to what they thought it would be like. Some clients even say that they can’t be hypnotised. Going into the hypnotic state is no different to putting your head on your pillow at night in preperation to going to sleep. Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation. As everyone finds it easy enough to fall asleep at night, equally you will be able to enter a working state of hypnosis.
The important thing to note is that you will NOT be asleep, or unconscious. If you were asleep then we wouldn't be able to converse and work through the issues. Hypnosis is neither sleep nor is it being fully aware and wide awake. - it is a state of deep relaxation and suspension of the critical faculties, nothing else. In this state the barriers to the unconscious are down where the root cause of your problem can be established. Hypnotherapy is very safe, has no side effects and can help bring rapid change to the issues affecting your life.
