You Will Be Helped To Recognise The Underlying Triggers Of When You Bite Your Nails
And You Will Learn To Stop The Nail Biting Effectively And Quickly

You have heard it said that people are "creatures of habit." Well, nothing could be more accurate. We are indeed creatures of habit. We have constructive, useful habits but we also have destructive, negative habits: nail biting, drinking alcohol, smoking, gambling, not exercising, chewing tobacco, trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling), cutting one self, shop-aholicism, excessive worry, being late for appointments...The list is endless.

nail bitingIt is important when breaking a habit that a person has a strong reason to want to change for therapy to be most effective. Habits become so conditioned that they happen automatically without much conscious intervention. All habits are performed through the unconscious mind, i.e. done without thinking about the action.

A bad habit does not always have an underlying cause. Sometimes habits are developed simply because the activity creates a pleasant feeling. However, nail biting, for example, is typically not a 'feel good' habit, although the individual may think so. Nail biting is a habit that is often stress-related or may be the result of a simple physical routine, or can be a symptom of deeper psychological problems. Whatever the cause, your habit can be very easily and effectively stopped with hypnotherapy and supported with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

How Does Hypnotherapy Help Me Stop Biting My nails?

Hypnotherapy for nail biting helps to uncover underlying causes as to why you bite your nails. Biting your nails is not a medical condition, it cannot be treated effectively with medication. You bite your nails because you have learned to do it. You do not bite your nails on purpose, you didn't wake up one morning and decide to start biting your nails. Nail biting is a habit, a habit which has developed over time and a habit which is now a subconscious action. Just as any habit, you do not perform it on a conscious level so you are not aware of the emotions associated with it surfacing.

Hypnotherapy is one of the oldest therapies around and is validated by the British Medical Association,(BMA), as an orthodox treatment and not merely a complimentary practice. Unfortunately stage shows have given people misconceptions as to what hypnosis is. Some people think that they lose control of their faculties or that they are asleep. Some people think that they will be made to say things they do not want to say. All these misconceptions are far from what hypnosis is. During the hypnotherapy sessions although your conscious mind is guided into a relaxed state, your subconscious mind is in a state of heightened awareness. That is why this form of therapy is so effective because we are able to establish the root of your nail biting habit is buried...the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy faq's.

Although nail biting is a subconscious habit it is generally linked to some form of stress or anxiety and the nail biting habit is a physical response to these stimuli. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for nail biting helps you to look at your present anxieties and stresses and establish what the underlying triggers are of why you bite your nails.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT) is the preferred method of treatment recommended by the NHS to facilitate change. The aims of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are to help you change the way that you think, feel and behave so to make anxiety and stress a thing of the past.

If anxiety or stress is causing your nail biting, (As it generally is,) I will help you to challenge your negative thoughts and beliefs which make you feel anxious. Once you are able to deal with any underlying anxieties or stresses, no matter how small they are, in a positive way, you will find your habit of nail biting will diminish.
