Everyone gets afraid from time to time. For some of us though, certain phobias can dominate our thinking and control portions of our lives. Your condition may have arisen as the result of a traumatic experience, or slowly crept into your life over a period of time. It's even possible that the root cause or beginning of its existence is unknown to us, but the reality of it is that it's present in our daily lives. Whatever the reason the symptoms can seriously impact the quality of your life.
When we are faced with our biggest fears we experience tremendous
anxiety. Our breathing becomes more rapid as our pulse quickens and our muscles tense up. We may try to shut out whatever it is by closing our eyes, running away or by hiding. Avoidance though, is the way in which most of us prefer to deal with it.
The treatment you will receive includes one or more of the following:
HypnotherapyHypnotherapy helps to change how your subconscious mind has been taught to react to a situation. Just as your subconscious mind has learned to fear something, it too can learn how not to be fearful. This is a very powerful tool to use when helping with phobias.
CBTCognitive behavioural therapy helps you to change your negative dysfunctional thoughts and emotions towards your irrational fear into positive functional thoughts.
CounsellingSometimes just being able to talk through how you feel can be very effective in your treatment. With some people, they find that no one is really interested in their symptoms, so those symptoms can get exaggerated because of the built up anxieties.
As everyones presenting symptoms are unique then so is the treatment I provide.
What works for one may not neccessarily work for another so your first session will involve telling me your "story," so I can get an in depth understanding on how your phobia affects your life. In this session you will also be taught relaxation techniques and be supplied with a free relaxation cd for you to listen at any time at your own convenience.
Each session therafter helps to deal with the symptoms using the therapeutic techniques listed above with life changing results. You can look forward to your phobia being a thing of the past, infact you will be able to look back and laugh, wandering what you were ever scared about.
